Howard Goodall on Opera

Opera was born in Italy 400 years ago in Florence. The Camerata were a diverse intellectual group that argued about classical culture, arts and sciences. They talked about combining drama, design, music, poetry, and dance to create the ultimate art form... opera. Finally opera would take off in the early 1600s as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo was performed which covered a story about love, god, and the afterlife. Monteverdi  would have a choir consisting only of men. Opera's were even banned by monarchs in order to not give any individuals the idea of rebelling. They were right, operas got political and inspired citizens to rebel against monarchy. Camille Demunda shouted at French patriots to liberate themselves from the control of the monarchy in Paris and many stormed the prison of the Bastille that was a symbol of repression, this sparked the revolution. Madama Butterfly Animation

The movie version of Madama Butterfly showed raw emotion and I felt more attached to the characters than in the animation. In Act 1 Pinkerton made all these promises to Butterfly to return back to her and you could see how emotional this scene was and how tender and real it seemed. In Act 2 she opens a letter from Pinkerton three years later and he finds out they have a son together so he finally returns to Butterfly. He brings his American wife and realizes that Butterfly has counted every day he has been gone and realizes how in love she is with him. In the movie you can see the heartbreak and how intense he emotions are. Pinkerton and his wife also think it's best for Butterfly's son to go home with them because Butterfly is now poor and cannot provide for their son. You can see when the mood shifts and her sorrow fills her body and can tell she is about to commit suicide because of how Pinkerton has betrayed their promise and love. I personally liked the movie more than th...

Native American to Hagia Sophia

Native Americans created many revolutionary inventions as big as community homes which could be built very quickly and housed an entire tribe to something as small as canoes for fishing. Their inventions helped shape society today. When Christopher Columbus arrived in America and met the Native Americans they taught him their ways of living and introduced him to their crops and weapons. They were very innovative and utilized their surroundings and survived off that land around them. The had many different types of homes they built. One that took a short time to make and was easy to build if they were staying in the same place for a couple of months was Wigwam's because they provided shelter for each family and would last the time they needed and when they left it wouldn't hurt the area because they only used nature to build these homes. Another shelter was longhouses. These took longer to make because they would sleep up to sixty people and were very large. They also provided s...
