Creativity Article

As I was reading the creativity article the first thing that stuck out to me that was new and seemed to be an important fact was that "creativity involves a complex interplay between spontaneous and controlled thinking". During the study of divergent thinking the participants were asked to think of creative ways to use certain items like socks and the people who said use it as a water filter were more creative while the people who said use it to warm your feet were less creative. This is an example of spontaneous thinking because it shows an individual's ability to think of non traditional ways to use items. Raul Cuero Interview

Dr. Cuero believes universality expectations allow you to extrapolate local judgement including the society and culture and allow yourself to overcome prejudice. In order to challenge local obstacles like prejudice you need to go above society and culture in order to transcend. You can transcend obstacles by looking at the universal picture because you aren't limited to what society thinks of you, you focus on helping yourself and not the judgement of others around you. Dr. Cuero thinks creativity is how one perceives nature and being a good observer/ playing in nature, not art. He thinks man made items cause one to have limited creativity and that ideas come about by conversing with other people and things in nature. I think Dr. Cuero makes some good points about how kids spend too much time with technology instead of playing outside but I think combining observing nature with technology can help someone have a more varied creativity. He also believes American education has a good...

BIO Hannah Pierce Picture

Image
Hi guys my name is Hannah Pierce. I am from a small coastal town in Massachusetts called Newburyport. I'm right on the border of New Hampshire and about 45 minutes from Boston. I have a cat and 2 dogs my family rescued. I also have 3 older brothers. I love the beach especially since I grew up living on the water and I love hiking, hammocking, watching Netflix and hanging out with my family and friends. I'm interested in the environment and how to create more sustainable ways of living. I am undecided here at UT and still trying to figure out what I want to do in my future.
