The mise en scene in every movie or show is very important to help the viewer understand where the setting is, the time period, the characters, and more. The mise en scene in a Christmas carol is extremely important because there are three different settings visited throughout the movie. The three spirits that visit him on the night of Christmas eve take Scrooge to his past, present and his future. Mise en scene is crucial because it helps the audience know where the setting is and what time period it is. For example, the audience knows when scrooge is visiting the memories of  Christmas eve as a child because of the clothes he's wearing, the presence of his classmates, also when the settings change the screen appears a little darker to show a memory. The audience is also aware that the time period has changed because the spirit takes him on an obvious journey to the new time period by adding spinning or the bells that ding each time the memory begins. Mise en scene is also important when the spirit takes Scrooge back to his present. The setting changes back to scrooges present bedroom and shows his reaction to the thing the spirit showed him. The audience is aware that he is back in his bedroom because he is wearing the same thing as before the memory and he is the same age.
